Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wells shoots its way past Nittany Lions

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team was doomed by the red hot outside shooting by Wells College, as the visitors topped the Nittany Lions by a score of 87-79 in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Crossover contest at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to an 18-8 lead over the first nine minutes of play and maintained the 10 point advantage with 7:06 left in the half. The Express chipped away at their deficit and trailed just 36-34 going into the halftime intermission. Wells used a 23-9 spurt over the first six minutes of the second half to build a 57-45 lead. After Wells extended its lead to a game-high 13 points with 9:58 to play, the Nittany Lions went to work to get back in the game. Berks went on a 16-4 run that spanned just under five minutes of game action to make it a one point game (70-69) with 5:00 left to play. Unfortunately for Berks, the Express shot 5-of-6 from the floor and 4-of-4 at the free throw line in those final five minutes to secure the win.

Matt Seip narrowly missed out on his first triple-double after pouring in 20 points and bringing down a team-high 11 rebounds, while also recording a career-high seven assists. Latrell Carroll turned in another dominating performance en route to his ninth double-double. The freshman forward shot 11-of-16 from the floor to finish with a team-high 24 points and grabbed 10 boards. Carroll did the majority of his damage in the second half, where he recorded 20 points and eight rebounds.

For the second game in a row, Steve Luchansky was dialed in from long distance. The freshman guard finished with 18 points after matching Saturday's performance with six 3-pointers made. Brandon Wise added seven points and five assists, while Rene Alexandre finished with six points.

The Express finished the contest 15-of-25 from beyond the arc. The bulk of that came from Zach D'Arpino, who went 9-of-12 from 3-point land to finish with a contest-high 27 points. Rich Ross connected on three 3's and finished with 21 points, while A.J. Nesci also had three 3's and finished with 15 points to go along with nine assists.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m.
