Men's basketball edged in OT by Keuka

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team erased a double-digit second half deficit to force overtime, but found itself on the wrong end of an 89-83 decision to Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Crossover contest on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

The Wolves led 33-25 at halftime and extended the lead to 11 points with 18:47 left in regulation. But Latrell Carroll and Steve Luchansky combined for 32 of the Nittany Lions 46 second half points to finish even at 71-all after 40 minutes of play. Carroll was 5-of-7 from the field after backing has way down the lane for hard fought layups. Luchansky did his damage from 3-point range, where the freshman guard was 5-of-8 in the second period. In addition to the strong play of those two, Berks got incredible performances down the stretch from Monty Farmer, Hassan Darby, E'drise Hightower, and Matt Seip.

The Wolves jumped out to a four point lead over the first minute and half of the extra frame. Carroll went 1-for-2 at the foul line to make it a three points game (75-72), but Keuka responded with a 1-for-2 trip of its own at the line to push it back to four points. Carroll pulled the Nittany Lions within two points after driving to the hoop and putting in another layup. The Wolves was 3-for-4 at the line to go up by six, but Seip drained a long distance 3-pointer to make it 80-77. The Wolves, however, would go 9-for-10 at the line over the final minute of the game to secure the thrilling victory.

Carroll earned his eighth double-double of the season after recording a season-high 30 points (11-of-17 from the floor) and 15 rebounds (eight offensive, seven defensive). The freshman standout dished out three assists and had one steal in 38 effective minutes of play.

Luchansky also enjoyed a career-high in points after finished the day with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. The freshman guard went 6-of-11 from beyond the arc, which tied him for the seventh most 3's made in a single-game in program history. In a season-high 37 minutes of action, Luchansky also had three steals, one assist,and one rebound.

Seip, who was in foul trouble early in the second half, finished with 14 points, three boards, two assists, and one blocked shot. Farmer went 3-of-6 from 3-point range and finished with 11 points to go with two assists, two steals, and two rebounds. Darby had two points and three assists, but his value to the game was his six timely rebounds and strong defense down low. Hightower added four points, four assists, and three rebounds.

Trevor Powell had 23 points and 10 rebounds, while James Barnes added 17 points and 10 boards. Ryder Mansfield also notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sam Brown rounded out the players scoring in double figures with 14 points.

Berks committed only eight turnovers, while forcing the Wolves into 18. But the difference in the game came at the foul line, where Keuka shot 85.7% (18-for-21) and the Nittany Lions were 50.0% (10-for-20).

The Nittany Lions will have a quick turnaround as they host Wells College in a NEAC Crossover contest on Sunday, January 13 at 2 p.m.
