Women's soccer blanks LBC in conference opener

LANCASTER, PA - Four different players scored a goal as the Penn State Berks women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory on the road over Lancaster Bible College in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions (1-1, 1-0 NEAC) controlled possession of the ball early on, but were unable to break through for a score. Berks took five shots and had six corner kicks during the first 20 minutes of play, but did not find the back of the net at all in that time.

Finally, at the 22:48 mark of the contest, Caitlin Golden collected a loose ball and drilled a line drive past the keeper into the upper corner of the net for her first goal of the season. A little more than three minutes later, Monica Pinel headed a cross from Alexis Schoener that slammed off the inside of the left post and into the net for a 2-0 lead. Schoener then got in on the scoring when she headed a ball from Alexa Lopez past the keeper in the 41st minute.

Berks again held the bulk of the possession in the second half with a number of shots and corner kicks. In the 84th minute, Golden played a ball over to Charlotte Pizzuto, who then beat the keeper inside the near post for her first goal of the season.

Bristol Pizzuto earned her first win for Berks after recording one save in the first half. Rylee Milligan handled the goalkeeping duties in the second half, where she made one save and combined with B. Pizzuto for the shutout.

Berks outshot the Chargers by a 26-2 margin (14-2 on goal) and held a 15-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Dickinson College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 12 at 4:30 p.m.
