Women's volleyball drops five-set heartbreaker to DelVal

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but ran out of steam as Delaware Valley took the decisive fifth set to earn a 3-2 victory in Wednesday evening's non-conference contest at the Beaver Community Center.

The Aggies made a late push en route to a 27-25 triumph in the first game, followed by a 25-22 victory that built a comfortable 2-0 lead. The Nittany Lions battled back in the third game and pulled out a 25-22 win and then grabbed a 25-20 win in the fourth game. Berks ran out to a 4-2 lead in the fifth, but the Aggies used a 9-1 run to take control of the match. The Nittany Lions kept battling until the end, before DelVal took the set by a score of 15-6.

Abbie Carr turned in a career-best performance with 15 kills on 24 attacks, while adding five block assists, and two service aces. Megan Lackman and Maddy Kessler both chipped in nine kills, while Natalie Dwyer added seven. Lackman also added four service aces and Dwyer notched two, to go along with 11 digs. Madison Wojciechowski led the team with 15 digs and added three service aces. MacKenzie Reed handed out a career-high 41 assists and picked up six digs.

Kayla Bracken paced the Aggies with a team-high 21 kills and 15 digs. Laura Sweger followed in kills with eight, while Danielle Marin notched 12 digs.

The Nittany Lions will compete at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational on Saturday, September 8. They open up with host Lebanon Valley at 11 a.m., followed by Penn State Altoona at 2 p.m.
