Men's soccer blanks CSE in NEAC tilt

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team had five different players score goals en route to an 8-0 victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 3-3-1 on the season and 1-2 in the NEAC, while the Eagles fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Brenden Valverde got the scoring started in at the 17:42 mark of the opening period with a low liner into the left side of the net off a nice pass by Luke Romanoski. Valverde then recorded the assist on Alex Williams first goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Valverde tacked on two more goals in the first half and Orion Mathias notched one goal off an assist by Jakob Fischer to give Berks a 5-0 halftime lead.

Valverde netted his fourth and final goal of the contest in the 55th minute after dribbling from midfield past the defense and around the keeper. Carter Lam tallied his first goal of the season off of a feed from Romanoski. Josh Rios capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 86th minute.

Gerardo Sosa earned the win in net after recording one save in the first half. Trent Johnson shared the shutout with Sosa after turning in 45 minutes in the second half. The Eagles had save saves from goalkeeper Brian Hernandez.

The Nittany Lions will return to action when they host Gallaudet University on Saturday, September 22 at 3 p.m.
