Men's soccer drops home tilt to Harrisburg

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team were topped by Penn State Harrisburg, 4-0, in a non-conference contest on Thursday night.

Berks falls to 2-2-1 on the season, while Harrisburg remains perfect at 6-0.

Harrisburg got the first tally of the contest when Joey Aman scored from a near impossible angle on the end line at the 9:06 mark. They tacked on another score in the 30th minute when Aman collected a long play in off a free kick by Dustin Rohrbach and deposited a low liner inside the right post.

The visitor's put the game out of reach with a goal in the 66th minute and another one in the 76th minute.

The Berks offense was held in check most of the night, but were able to create some scoring opportunities. Midway through the opening period, Alex Williams and Orion Mathias each had shots blocked by a pile of defenders from inside the box, while Brenden Valverde put a shot on net that was saved by the keeper. In the second half, Tyler Brown had a bicycle kick that was saved by the keeper and Alex Khaldaoui had a free kick that sailed just wide of the left post.

Trent Johnson and Gerardo Sosa split time in net and both finished with four saves, while Harrisburg's Carlos Acosta picked up the shutout with two stops.

Harrisburg outshout Berks by a 14-8 margin (12-2 on goal) and held an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.

Berks will host Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday, September 15 at 3 p.m.
