Women's volleyball blanks Immaculata on the road

IMMACULATA, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball picked up where they left off the night before as they earned a second straight 3-0 victory, this time coming against Immaculata University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions (2-7) outlasted the Mighty Macs 28-26 in the first game, followed by scores of 25-16 and 25-22 to seal the victory.

In the first game, Berks trailed 11-4 early on and eventually trailed 17-12. From there, the Nittany Lions tallied 10 of the next 11 points with Megan Lackman recording three service aces during a stretch of eight straight points. The Mighty Macs rattled off five straight points to take a 23-22 lead, before the teams found themselves in a 24-all deadlock. Immaculata went ahead 26-25, but Berks was able to run off three straight points to earn a thrilling triumph in the opening game.

Berks broke a 7-all tie in the second game with an 8-0 run that saw Maddy Kessler notch four aces. The teams extended mini runs over until the Nittany Lions were able to finish off the set with an ace from Natalie Dwyer.

The third game saw the Nittany Lions build a comfortable 22-13 lead, but the Mighty Macs responded with a 9-2 run to make things interesting. With the score now 24-22, Abbie Carr tallied a kill to end the Immaculata rally and clinch the match.

Carr finished with a contest-high 10 kills, followed by Dwyer with nine and Lackman with seven. Madison Wojciechowski recorded a game-high 15 digs, while Dwyer had 13 and Ashley Morris notched nine. Kessler matched a career-high with five aces, Dwyer and Lackman each chipped in three. MacKenzie Reed handed out 26 assists to go along with five digs and three kills.

Shelby Belk and Olivia Zdradzinski led Immaculata with eight kills apiece, while Madi Curley added 14 assists and eight digs.

The Nittany Lions will host a tri-match with Penn State Abington and Notre Dame University of Maryland on Saturday. Berks will take on Abington in a NEAC contest at 11 a.m. and are scheduled for a non-conference tilt with Notre Dame at 3 p.m.
