Baseball falls on the road to York College

YORK, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped a road game, 24-12, to York College in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Jaquet Field.

The Nittany Lions drop to 17-9 on the season, while the Spartans now sit at 17-14-1 overall.

Berks jumped out to a 4-0 lead without recording a hit in the first inning, but the home squad responded with five runs in both the bottom of the first and second innings to go up 10-4. York combined for 13 runs over the next four innings to put the game away. The Nittany Lions scored seven runs in their final four at-bats, but by then it was too late.

Tate Yergey went 2-for-4 with two walks, one RBI, and two runs scored, while Brandon Griesemer was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Cory Fox had a double and scored a run, while Austin Madeja, Dalton Hughes, and Nick Diciacco all collected a hit and drove in a run. Madeja, who scored three runs, smacked the first homer of his career with a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning.

Justin Butler was the top pitcher for Berks, striking out a pair of batters and allowing just two hits and no runs in 1.1 innings of relief. Jon Davis struck out one batter in his two innings of relief.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Abington in a crucial NEAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
