Baseball drops wild game to Harrisburg

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team and Penn State Harrisburg found themselves in a wild game with both teams scoring in bunches, with Harrisburg winning the high scoring affair by a score of 17-12 on Monday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field. The game was called at the end of the eighth inning due to darkness.

Berks scored three runs in the bottom of the third to knot the game at 4-all. Harrisburg answered back with five runs in the top of the fourth, but Berks had four runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more in the fifth to pull even at 9-9. Berks tacked on three runs in the seventh, but Harrisburg countered with eight runs in the top of the eighth to pick up the victory.

Seven of the nine batters in the starting lineup had two or more hits for Berks. Junior Toby Welk continued his dominance at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, one home run, one scored, and one intentional walk. Dalton Hughes matched a career-high after going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Dante Salerno was 2-for-3 with four runs scored, one triple, and one RBI, while Austin Madeja was 2-for-5 with three runs scored. Cory Fox, Brandon Griesemer, and Tyler Comport all had two hits.

Jameson Glass, who tossed the first three innings of the game, allowed two hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out three batters. Drew Skrocki threw 4.1 innings of relief, striking out a season-high four batters, Calen Reigner tossed the final 0.2 innings and registered one strikeout.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gettysburg College for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24 at 12 p.m.
