Second half surge propels men's basketball to win over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team used a second half rally to pick up a 75-67 victory on the road over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday night at Bardo Gymnasium.

The Nittany Lions (1-9, 1-2 NEAC) trailed 33-27 at halftime and were down by eight points on several occasions early in the second half. Matt Seip made a layup with 13:15 left that even the score at 41-41 and was the start of 15-2 run that spanned over 5:30 minutes of game play. That run swung the game into a 54-43 lead for the Nittany Lions with 7:52 left. The Wildcats (0-8, 0-3 NEAC) got their deficit down to five points a couple of times, but Berks was able to push the lead back into double digits.

Berks was able to seal the game down the stretch after spending the bulk of its time at the free throw line. In the final five minutes, the Nittany Lions went 15-for-22 at the free throw line, with E'drise Hightower going 9-for-12 in that time. Berks finished the game 21-for-33 from the line, while the Wildcats were 9-for-12 on their trips to the line.

Seip and Latrell Carroll were again the top scorers for the Nittany Lions. Seip finished with a game-high 23 points and brought down 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Carroll followed with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. The freshman big man hauled in 12 boards (6 offensive, 6 defensive) to notch his team-leading sixth double-double of the season.

Not far behind those two in the scoring column was Hightower, who finished the game with 15 points. Monty Farmer added eight points to go along with six boards, three assists, and three steals, while Brandon Wise added five points and three rebounds. Steve Luchansky knocked had three points, while Alex Odle added two points and five rebounds.

Jeff Nixon led the Wildcats with 16 points, followed by Ryan Lockman with 12. Imari Walker and Ben Sosa each chipped in nine points. Lockman grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will hit their winter break and will not return to action until Saturday, January 5 when they travel to take on DeSales University.
