Hot shooting leads E-Town past Berks in season opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team could keep pace with the hot shooting of Elizabethtown College, as the Nittany Lions drop the 2018-19 season opener by a score of 90-73 on Thursday evening at Thompson Gymnasium.

The Nittany Lions had four of its five starters reach double figures in scoring. Freshman Latrell Carroll made a magnificent collegiate debut with a double-double after collecting a contest-high in points and rebounds with 26 and 12, respectively. The big man shot a very efficient 12-of-14 from the floor, while grabbing four boards on offense and eight on the defensive end. In addition, Carroll also notched a contest-high three blocked shots.

E'drise Hightower recorded 11 points and dished out a team-high seven assists, while Brandon Wise and Matt Seip both chipped in 10 points. Rene Alexandre added nine points and three assists.

The Blue Jays also had four members finish in double digits scoring, led by Michael Pastore with 18 points and Brandon Berry with 17.

The difference maker in the game was turnovers, as Berks committed 25, while E-Town had 14.

The Nittany Lions return to action tomorrow night with a trip to nearby Alvernia University. Tip-off for the contest is set for 7 p.m.
