Volleyball splits a pair of conference contests

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests on Saturday afternoon. The Nittany Lions defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0, in the opener, but dropped a 3-1 decision later in the day to SUNY Poly at Bardo Gymnasium on the campus of Penn College.

The Nittany Lions now sit at 6-15 overall and 4-3 in the NEAC. In the victory over SUNY Cobleskill (2-15, 1-6 NEAC), Berks claimed the match by set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 26-24. In the setback to SUNY Poly (7-14, 3-3 NEAC), the Wildcats won by scores of 25-20, 25-13, 16-25, 25-12.

Abbie Carr and Megan Lackman combined on 30 of the Nittany Lions 45 kills in the victory over the Fighting Tigers. Carr recorded a career-high 16 kills, while committing just one error on 22 attempts for a very efficient .682 hitting percentage. In addition, the sophomore middle blocker chipped in four digs, two service aces, and one solo block. Lackman finished the contest with 14 kills, which was one shy of matching her career-best. The senior outside hitter had just two errors on her 24 attempts as she had a .500 hitting percentage for the match. Lackman also added six digs and one service ace.

Maddy Kessler, MacKenzie Reed, and Jenna Plitnick all tallied four kills, while Abbie Tuel followed with three against Cobleskill. Reed turned in a solid all around contest with 35 assists, eight digs, and four service aces. Plitnick notched nine digs and a season-high eight aces. Madison Wojciechowski racked up a contest-high 14 digs.

Against the Wildcats, Carr had a team-high eight kills with just one error for a .700 hitting percentage. Kessler and Lackman each had five kills, while Plitnick added four. Carr, Lackman, and Madison Hetrick all chipped in three service aces, while Carr also notched two solo blocks. Reed handed out 20 assists to go along with six digs and one ace. Wojciechowski led the Nittany Lions with 19 digs, followed by Plitnick with a season-high 16 and Lackman with 10.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University in their annual Pink Game on Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
