Pair of second half goals propel Nittany Lions to win over E-Town

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - Julia Green scored off of a rebound in the 75th minute and Caitlin Golden tacked one on later as the Penn State Berks women's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory on the road over Elizabethtown College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at Ira R. Herr Field.

The Nittany Lions have won three straight games for the first time this season as they improve to 7-3-1 overall, while the Blue Jays drop to 3-5-2 on the year.

Berks outshot E-Town by a 10-2 margin in the first half, but both teams went into the intermission deadlocked in a scoreless tie. The Blue Jays came out strong in the second half with five shots and a corner kick over the first 20 minutes, while Berks had struggled to get anything going offensively in that time. Golden had the first shot of the second half for Berks in the 66th minute, but the shot was saved by keeper Christine Fox. Jess Mandeville had a shot sail wide of the target a few minutes later.

At the 74:19 mark of the contest, Green put on a shot on net that was stopped by the keeper but the ball was still out inside the box. Green followed up the shot and put the rebound into the back of the net at 74:20 to notch her third goal of the season and give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions continued to put pressure on the Blue Jay defense and Golden was able to give Berks a much needed second goal in the 86th minute. The score was Golden's 21st of the season, which is the most in all of Division III.

Bristol Pizzuto notched a pair of saves in both halves to finish the contest with four saves and earn a shutout victory. This was the Nittany Lions eighth shutout of the year and the second for Pizzuto this season. Pizzuto received help from the defensive back line of Shelby Baker, Megan Jardine, Karina Raykova, and Mandeville, while Adara Enrique came off the bench to give some solid minutes on defense.

For the game, Berks outshot the Blue Jays by a 20-10 margin (9-4 on goal) and held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Morrisville State for a NEAC contest on Saturday, October 6 at 1 p.m.
