Men's basketball falls on the road to St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team saw a second half lead slip away as the College of Saint Elizabeth topped the Nittany Lions, 93-78, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions closed the gap at the end of the first half to trail just 40-38 going into the break. After a sloppy start by both teams to start the second half, Berks was able to even the contest at 40-all with 19:02 left to play. The Nittany Lions then used a 12-5 run over the next 4-plus minutes to gain a seven point lead with 15:32 to go. The Eagles responded with a 32-8 run to go ahead by 17 points (77-60) with a little over seven minutes to play. Berks got as close as 12 down with 2:48 to play, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Matt Seip led the Nittany Lions with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists. David DiMeo followed with 18 points and a team-high nine boards and six steals. Nelson Hine rounded out the Berks players scoring in double figures with 15 points, while also adding six assists and four rebounds.

Jason Saldiveri had a contest-high 25 points to paced the Eagles on offense. The sophomore guard also recorded eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Cam Tucker and Tino Gonzalez both tallied 11 points, while Shaquan Mickens pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in NEAC action on Saturday, January 20 at 1 p.m.
