Women's basketball topped by Wildcats

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter, but SUNY Poly was able to hold onto the lead en route to a 93-79 victory over the Nittany Lions in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Wildcats took a 45-34 lead into the halftime break and later tacked on 13 points to their lead in the third quarter. Trailing by 24, the Nittany Lions 24-10 run during nine minutes of the fourth quarter to cut their deficit to eight points with 1:03 to play. The teams exchanged a free throw to keep the difference at eight points and Berks was unable to get any closer down the stretch.

Deanna Daddona, Jennifer Martin, and Kylie Herman combined to score 68 of the Nittany Lions 79 points. Daddona enjoyed her finest scoring performance of the season with a 30 point effort. The junior guard connected on 6-of-8 shots from 3-point range and finished the day 10-of-17 from the floor. Martin was also very efficient with her shooting, going 10-of-13 on her way to a season-high 21 points. Herman notched her fourth double-double of the season after recording 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. In addition, Herman handed out a contest-high six assists and also added two steals. Abbie Carr chipped in five points and pulled down nine boards, while Sam Brensinger added four points and five assists.

Khristaijah Jackson led the Wildcats with 33 points on 14-of-19 shooting from the floor, while Kiersten Leos followed with 30 points. Cassidy Albright finished with a team-high 10 rebounds, all of which came on the defensive end of the court.

The Nittany Lions will travel to the College of St. Elizabeth for a NEAC contest on Wednesday, January 17 at 8 p.m.
