Men's basketball rally comes up short against SUNY Poly

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team was unable to recover from a first half deficit in a 91-79 setback to SUNY Polytechnic in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Beaver Community Center.

The Wildcats came out of the gates on fire with a 12-of-12 effort from the floor over the first seven minutes of the contest and eventually took a 60-37 lead into the halftime intermission. One of the offensive highlights for Berks in the first half was a buzzer beater from around half court by Justin Seemann. Out of the break, the Nittany Lions held SUNY Poly to just three points on 1-of-5 shooting from the floor of the first five minutes of action. Berks outscored the Wildcats 42-31 in the second half after forcing 11 turnovers and holding the opposition to 37.5% (9-of-24) shooting from the floor.

Dave Polisano tallied 16 of his game-high 19 points during the second half scoring outbreak. He finished the half with 4-of-5 shooting from the floor, including three 3-pointers, and converted on all five of his trips to the foul line. Matt Seip notched a double-double after recording 16 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. He also added three assists and three steals. Robbie McHugh chipped in 13 points, while David DiMeo added 10. Nelson Hine finished the contest with eight points, five assists, and two blocked shots.

SUNY Poly received 24 points and 11 boards from Kevin Williams. Redell Freeman had 18 points, eight assists, and seven steals, while Blake Haga and Malik Johnson both added 11 points.

The Nittany Lions will take on the College of St. Elizabeth in NEAC action on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m.
