Women's basketball edged by Morrisville State

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking setback to Morrisville State College, 76-71, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

The teams went into the halftime intermission deadlocked at 31-all. The Nittany Lions then outscored Morrisville State 21-15 in the third quarter to take a six point lead, but the Mustangs claimed the victory after using a 30-19 fourth quarter effort.

Melissa Martin turned in a stellar all-around performance, while playing all 40 minutes of the game. The sophomore guard poured in a season-high 28 points after connecting on 6-of-10 baskets from 3-point range. In addition, she notched her first double-double after pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds. Martin also had a game-high five steals and handed out three assists.

Kylie Herman added 14 points, five boards, and four assists, while Jennifer Martin chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.

The Mustangs were paced on offense by Tori Rockefeller and Haley Kilmartin, who both finished with 14 points. Peyton Jackson added 10 points, while Marissa Woodard hauled in a contest-best 13 boards and three blocked shots.

The Nittany Lions return to action when they host SUNY Polytechnic on Sunday, January 14 at 2 p.m.
