Women's volleyball drops first NEAC match of the season

MARCY, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to SUNY Polytechnic in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field House.

The Nittany Lions fall to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats improve to 6-10 on the year and also sit at 3-1 in the conference. SUNY Poly claimed the first game by a score of 25-18, but Berks bounced back with a win by the same score in the second game. The Wildcats went ahead with a  25-16 triumph in the third set and clinched the victory with a 25-20 win in the fourth game.

Alexis Horst had a contest-high 17 kills to go along with 16 digs, while Megan Lackman added nine kills and recorded a career-high and contest-best 26 digs. Madison Wojciechowski followed Lackman with 23 digs and the team collected 90 digs in the four-set match. Laken Bankert had a career-high 33 assists, while also adding 11 digs and two service aces. Maddy Kessler, who had three kills, notched five service aces and four block assists. Abbie Carr also had four block assists, while Amia Boone and Lackman each had two.

Brittany Adams led the Wildcats with 11 kills, followed by Karlie King with 10 and Makayla Hulett with nine. Samantha Henry and Sydney Johnson tied for the team lead with 13 digs each.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a NEAC South Division contest on Wednesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
