Women's volleyball cruises to 3-0 win over Gallaudet

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team was on a roll in each of the three games en route to a 3-0 shutout over Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday evening at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (7-9, 4-1) went on lengthy runs in all three sets to take down the the reigning six-time NEAC Tournament Champion Bison (11-10, 3-2 NEAC), winning by scores of 25-13, 25-13, and 25-17. In the first game, Berks jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, extended it to 13-3 and eventually led 22-9 to take control of the game. The second game saw Gallaudet narrow its deficit to 10-9, but Berks went on an 8-0 run and closed out the set 15-4 to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The third game started out 6-0 in Berks' favor and eventually expanded to 19-8, before finally coming to an end at 25-17.

Maddy Kessler racked up a career-high 13 kills to lead the Nittany Lions offensive attack. The freshman middle blocker recorded just one error on her 25 attempts to finish the match with an efficient .480 attack percentage. Alexis Horst followed Kessler with 11 kills, while Megan Lackman chipped in eight. The Nittany Lions compiled 38 kills with just five errors on 94 attacks for a .351 hitting percentage.

Morgan Schwartz handed out 33 assists to go along with five service aces and four digs. Madison Wojciechowski had a contest-high 18 digs, followed by Horst (12), Lackman (10), and Laken Bankert (8). Kessler and Abbie Carr both recorded two block assists, while Amia Boone and Lackman each had one.

Adele Daniels led the Bison with nine kills and Darriyan Thomas chipped in seven. Kameron Kinast recorded 19 assists and two service aces.

The Nittany Lions will enjoy an eight day lay off before returning to action with a non-conference contest at Albright College on Thursday, October 12 at 6 p.m.
