Women's volleyball falls to Alvernia on the road

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team had its three match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 setback on the road to Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Thursday evening.

The Nittany Lions (6-8) dropped a heartbreaking 27-25 decision in the first game, but evened up play with a 25-19 victory in the second game. The Golden Wolves (12-5) then jumped ahead 2-1 with a 25-13 win in the third set and clinched the match with a 25-23 triumph in the fourth set.

Megan Lackman led the Nittany Lions offensive attack with nine kills, followed by Maddy Kessler and Alexis Horst with eight each. Amia Boone and Abbie Carr both had six kills to account for the remaining Berks kills in the match. Madison Wojciechowski collected a contest-high 23 digs, while Lackman and Horst both had 14. Morgan Schwartz dished out 34 assists and notched four digs. Carr also chipped in three service aces and two solo blocks.

Kristen Sipling paced the Golden Wolves with 25 kills, 10 digs, and two service aces, while Emily Smith added 12 kills and a team-high 14 digs. Laura Wachowicz had 25 assists and Gabrielle DeLucca added 12.

The Nittany Lions will travel to New York for a conference tilt with SUNY Polytechnic on Saturday, September 30 at 2 p.m.
