Men's soccer tops St. Elizabeth in conference opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team opened up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a 15-0 victory over visiting College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (3-5, 1-0 NEAC) had nine different members record a point in the contest, including seven separate players scoring goals.

Brenden Valverde matched his season-high with four goals scored and added a personal-best two assists. The 10 points for the match were also a career-high for Valverde and ranks as the second most in a single-game in program history. Brian Garay and Tony Ambrosino both tallied a pair of goals and dished out an assist, while Cole Mays, Manny Zavala, and Luke Romanoski each netted two goals. Wes Fox had a successful penalty kick attempt for his first goal of the season and also added an assist. Jon Mercier dished two assists in the first half and another three in the second half for a single-game program record five assists. Adam Omar also had a multi-assist game with a season-high two assists.

The Nittany Lions had all four of their keepers see the field and the group combined on the second shutout of the season. For the game, Berks outshot the Eagles by a 35-2 margin (26-0 on goal) and held a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a NEAC contest at Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, September 27 at 2 p.m.
