Men's soccer falls on the road to Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road to Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon.

Berks falls to 2-3 on the season, while host Harrisburg improves to 6-0 overall.

Berks appeared to get on the board with the first goal of match in the 3:32 mark of the opening period, however the line referee signaled an offside to call off the score. In the 6th minute, Berks had another fast break opportunity called off due to an offside infraction.

After those attempts for Berks, the offense shifted to Harrisburg's side as the home squad fired 10 shots in the first half and put four on goal. Gerardo Sosa made three saves in the first half, including an amazing diving stop off a header in the 23rd minute.

Harrisburg was able to break through with their lone goal of the first half when Victor Weaver was able to get off a line drive from inside the box in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Berks was able to get off seven shots with two put on goal by Jakob Fischer and one by Brenden Valverde. Unfortunately for Berks, the Harrisburg keeper Nicholas Guglielmett was there to make the stop on all three shots.

Harrisburg built up a 2-0 lead with a goal in the 52nd minute and followed that up with a successful penalty kick conversion in the 79th minute. The final tally of the contest came in the 85th minute to make it a 4-0 lead for Harrisburg.

For the match, Harrisburg outshot Berks by an 18-7 margin (7-3 on goal) and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Berks returns to action with a non-conference home contest against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
