Baseball suffers a pair of one-run setbacks to SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks baseball team suffered a pair 3-2 setbacks on the road to SUNY Polytechnic in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions drop to 16-18 overall and 9-5 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats improve to 8-25 on the season and 7-7 in the conference.

In the opener, Berks battled back to even the score at 2-all in the top of the seventh inning. Both teams squandered scoring opportunities in the extra frames, before SUNY Poly was able to get the game winning hit when a fly ball landed just inside the right field foul line to score the runner from second base.

In the second game, Berks again trailed throughout the contest before being able to tie the score at 2-2 late in the game. But against the Wildcats came through with the winning margin to hand the Nittany Lions a late heartbreak.

Berks will look to rebound with their final games of the season in a NEAC doubleheader at Penn State Abington on Saturday, May 6 at 12 p.m.
