Baseball drops home game to Ursinus

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team was topped by visiting Ursinus College, 10-3, in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions drop to 6-9 on the year, while the Bears improve to 11-4 overall.

Berks was held scoreless over the first eight innings of game before coming to life with all three of its runs in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Korea started the late rally when he smacked a one-out single through the left side of the infield and later came around to score on a wild pitch. Calen Reigner singled to right field with the bases loaded to drive in Guillermo Castillo, who walked earlier in the inning. Brett Geib drew a bases loaded walk to force in Mason Pennypacker with the Nittany Lions third run of the inning.

Toby Welk, Ryan Jacobs, and Seth Endy also had hits in the the game for Berks.

Mitch Amenta tossed the first 4.0 innings for the Nittany Lions, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out two batters. Ben Wanner went 2.2 innings of relief with one strike out and Jon Davis threw the final 2.1 innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts.

The Nittany Lions will Lancaster Bible College in their NEAC opener on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. At those games on Saturday, the baseball and softball teams will host their annual Pink Game fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
