Men's basketball edged on the road by Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team suffered yet another one-possession setback, falling 78-75 to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (4-15, 4-11 NEAC) trailed 48-44 at halftime and trailed by as much as 10 points with 10:17 left in the game. Darren Major registered four straight points to even the game at 71-all with 1:16 to play. After the Bison (18-4, 16-1 NEAC) went ahead by four points, Baba Waples earned a trip to the free throw line and made all three attempts to pull the Nittany Lions within a point. But the Bison sunk both of their shots at the line and the Nittany Lions game-tying attempt came up just short as time expired. The Bison converted 7-of-8 trips at the free throw line in the final minute to help secure the win.

Waples hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 21 points, followed by Major with 20 points. Nelson Hine connected on three shots from long range and finished with 18 points, while Dave Polisano also hit three 3's on his way to a nine point effort. Joel Ellison, who chipped in five points, recorded a team-high eight rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals. Hine recorded seven boards, five assists, and two steals.

Noah Valencia led the Bison with 21 points, followed by Joshua McGriff with 18 points. Raymond Nelson added 13 points, nine boards, and five assists, while Andy Cruz chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host Bryn Athyn College in a NEAC contest on Wednesday, February 8 at 8 p.m. They will be teaming up with the women's team to host their annual "Pink Game" Fundraiser to benefit the Berks Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
