Men's basketball topped on the road by Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team fell, 99-86, to Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (4-14, 4-10 NEAC) trailed 49-44 at halftime, but quickly erased the deficit to one point (52-51) after back-to-back 3-pointers by NELSON HINE and DARREN MAJOR early in the second half. The Phoenix (5-15, 5-11 NEAC) responded with a 12-5 run to build a 10-point cushion. Berks cut the deficit to five points, 72-67, with 8:37 to play, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way.

DARREN MAJOR led the Nittany Lions with 27 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the floor to go along with six rebounds. Baba Waples connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, followed by NELSON HINE with 15 points. Hine also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and handed out four assists. Eli Adams came off the bench for nine points, three boards, and two assists.

Waples sits at 1,257 career points, which trails Tom Smith (1,337) for the all-time scoring record by 80 points.

Rashaan Bean recorded 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Phoenix, followed by Keion Adams with 27 points and 12 boards. Marquis nelson added 17 points and Ian Frazier chipped in 12 points.

The Phoenix were able to pick up the win with their ability to get to the foul line, as they earned 33 free throws, compared to 19 by the Nittany Lions. In addition, Wilson converted 31 of its 33 trips for a 92.9%, while Berks went 10-of-19 for a 55.6%.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for a NEAC contest on Sunday, February 5 at 2 p.m.
