Women's basketball falls on the road to SUNY Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team battled hard on the road, but SUNY Cobleskill was able to pull away late in a 75-60 victory over the Nittany Lions on Friday evening's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The teams played to an even score of 16-all in the first quarter and the Nittany Lions (6-15, 6-13 NEAC) later took a 31-26 advantage into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, the Fighting Tigers (14-10, 10-7 NEAC) were able to cut their deficit to two points (49-47) heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Cobleskill outscored Berks by a 28-11 margin to seal the victory.

Sam Brensinger led the Nittany Lions in scoring after matching her career-high of 26 points. The freshman guard connected on two 3-pointers and shot 8-for-10 at the free throw line. In addition, Brensinger handed out five assists and made three steals in 40 minutes of action. Deanna Daddona, who went 10-for-12 at the foul line, recorded 19 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Sam Huggins chipped in seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while Elise Paskowski added six points and six boards.

Ashley Creighton led the Fighting Tigers with 26 points to go along with six boards, and five assists. Shelby Preston added 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Shiann Coons tallied nine points.

The Nittany Lions will wrap up the 2016-17 season with a road contest SUNY Polytechnic on Saturday, February 18 at 1 p.m.
