Women's basketball cruises to NEAC win

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team had five players score in double figures on its way to a 73-40 victory over Penn College of Technology in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday night at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (5-10, 5-8) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed in the contest. They led 18-5 at the end of the first period and controlled the game after taking a 41-18 lead into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, Berks extended its lead by outscoring the Wildcats 20-13 for a 61-31 advantage.

Deanna Daddona finished the contest with 12 points, while also adding six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. The sophomore guard made a pair of 3-pointers in the game, making her the school record holder in 3-pointers made with 106. Daddona currently sits at 22.4 points per game, which is ranked third in the NEAC.

Sam Brensinger turned in a strong all-around performance with a team-high 17 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. The freshman guard connected on three shots from 3-point range and finished the game 7-of-17 from the floor. Elise Paskowski and Sam Huggins each notched double-doubles for the Nittany Lions. Paskowski netted a career-high 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Huggins had 10 points and 10 boards for her team leading seventh double-double of the season. Britt Weiss added valuable minutes off the bench with 10 points and seven boards. Mackenzie Huber made three 3-pointers and finished with nine points, while Bre Schmidt connected on a 3-pointer and grabbed four boards.

The Nittany Lions controlled the glass with a 49-28 edge in rebound and outscored the Wildcats by a 30-12 margin in the paint.

Alicia Ross led the Wildcats with 21 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Gwendolyn Lavelle followed with 11 points and Tiffany Brown grabbed six boards.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Wilson College for a NEAC contest on Saturday, February 4 at 1 p.m.
