Women's basketball falls in overtime to Cairn

LANGHORNE, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team dropped an overtime thrill, 75-70, on the road to Cairn University in a non-conference contest on Friday night.

The Nittany Lions (3-5) led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter and took a 37-31 lead into the halftime intermission. The Highlanders (2-5) chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring Berks by a 16-11 margin to make it a 48-47 game going into the fourth quarter. Cairn battled back and took the lead late in the fourth period, before the two teams ended regulation tied at 63-all. In the overtime frame, the Nittany Lions jumped held a one-point advantage (70-69) with 2:03 to play. But the Highlanders would rattle off six unanswered points to secure the victory.

Kylie Herman notched her third double-double of the season after recording 23 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two steals, two assists, and one blocked shot. Sam Brensinger chipped in 17 points and handed out five assists, while Deanna Daddona had 16 points, four steals, and three assists. Melissa Martin rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 10 points to go with her four assists and three steals. Abbie Carr matched her season-high in rebounds with 11, while also adding four points and two blocked shots.

Payton Emerick led the Highlanders with 24 points and 11 boards, while Kendra Stum had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.

The Nittany Lions will head into their winter break and will not return to action until hosting Wilson College in a NEAC contest on Wednesday, January 10 at 8 p.m.
