Men's basketball drops home tilt to Stevenson

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team returned to action with a setback to Stevenson University, 113-83, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

Matt Seip got the Nittany Lions off to a fast start with the teams first eight points to build an 8-2 lead just 3:18 into the opening half. The teams battled back and forth before a layup by David DiMeo gave Berks its largest lead of the day at nine points (25-16) with 11:05 left until the break. The Mustangs worked back to take the lead at 6:35 (29-28) and closed out the period on a 27-13 run to build a 15-point advantage at the half.

In the second half, Berks was able to squash its deficit to as low as 10 points with 11:46 remaining, but the hot-shooting Mustangs were able to pull away in the next few minutes to put the game out of contention.

Nelson Hine led the Nittany Lions with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. The senior guard tallied 17 of his points in the second half after shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc out of the break. Hine also recorded five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Seip was the next top scorer for Berks, finishing with 18 points after connecting on three 3-pointers. Dave Polisano, who also drained three from long distance, rounded out the Nittany Lions in double figures with his 13 point effort. DiMeo and Eric Stepnowski tied fro the team lead in rebounds with six each, while DiMeo also chipped in eight points, four assists, and two steals.

Jaylin Johnson and Danzel Wright finished with identical stats of 29 points, six assists, and five rebounds to power the Mustangs. Marcus Dentley chipped in 15 points and Kyle Wooldrigde added 14.

The Nittany Lions travel to Millersville University in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, November 28 at 7 p.m.
