Men's basketball outdueled by Pitt.-Bradford in shootout

SCRANTON, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team was outdueled by the University of Pitt.-Bradford, 110-103, in wild a shootout in the consolation round of the Hilton Scranton Invitational at the Long Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions trailed 55-46 at halftime and were down by as much as 14 points early in the second half. But Berks answered with nine unanswered points on consecutive 3-pointers by David Dimeo, Nelson Hine, and Dave Polisano to pull within five (67-62) with 12:44 to play. The Panthers bumped their lead back up to 13 points with just under 11 minutes left, but another 3-pointer by Polisano started a 9-0 run that was capped off by a layup from Micah Krauter to make it a four-point deficit (75-71) with 8:25 left. Berks made it a one possession game at 81-78 with 6:15 to go, but that is as close as the game would get the rest of the way. UPB ran its lead up to 13 points with 1:12 left, before the Nittany Lions battled back to cut the deficit to five points with 15 seconds left. The Panthers hit a pair of free throws and kept Berks off the board to close out the final seconds of the game.

The trio of Dimeo, Hine, and Polisano bombarded their opposition with 3's for the second day in a row. They combined on four straight baskets from long distance yesterday and followed it up with three straight against the Panthers. The trio combined to make all 14 of the Nittany Lions 3-pointers, with Polisano hitting six, Hine draining five, and Dimeo with three.

Dimeo and Polisano tied for the team lead with 23 points each, while Dimeo also added seven rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. Hine recorded his third double-double of his career and first of the season after notching 19 points and a team-high 10 boards. The senior guard also added seven assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. Robbie McHugh rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double-figures with a career-best 18 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. Krauter had a strong game with six points, seven boards, and a team-high eight assists, while Matt Seip added seven points, six boards, and three assists.

Sahlil Harris led the Panthers with 25 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, eight steals, and two blocked shots. Desmond Brogsdale followed with 19 points, while Colby Mills chipped in 15 points off the bench.

The 213 points combined were the most points ever scored in a single-game at the University of Scranton's Long Center. The previous record was 206 points on December 21, 1974 in Scranton's 118-88 win over Spring Garden.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Delaware Valley University for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, November 21 at 8 p.m.
