Women's soccer blanks Morrisville State, 4-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory on the road over Morrisville State College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 5-4-1 on the season and 4-0 in the NEAC, while the Mustangs drop to 2-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Berks got on the board early when Melissa Martin recorded a pair of unassisted goals a little over a minute apart. She notched her first score of the game at the 10:03 mark and again at 11:14 to raise her team leading total to 11 goals this season.

Caitlin Golden tacked on the final goal of the first half with a score in the 44th minute with Alexa Lopez adding the assist. Golden finished off the scoring with a goal early in the second half off a feed by Shelby Baker. With the two goals, Golden raised her season total to seven.

The Nittany Lions outshot Morrisville State by a 35-5 margin (15-2 on goal) and held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. The defensive unit of Baker, Mackenzie Fredricks, Karina Raykova, and Jess Mandeville did a great job of limited the Mustangs offensive attacks. Paige Elmy and Kaylee Frapaul split time in net, with Frapaul notching a pair of saves.

The Nittany Lions will travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a NEAC contest on Sunday, October 8 at 2 p.m.
