Women's soccer advances to semifinals after topping Abington

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team defeated Penn State Abington, 9-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Quarterfinal round contest on Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Nittany Lions will host the semifinal and championship rounds this weekend.

Berks improves to 13-5-1 on the season, while Abington closes out the year with a 6-11-1 mark.

Caitlin Golden got Berks on the scoreboard with a goal at the 19:58 mark of the opening period after receiving a nice pass by Shelby Baker to set up the score. Golden struck again in the 29th minute and Melissa Martin found the back of the net in the 37th minute. Megan Jardine capped off the scoring in the first half with an amazing diving shot in which she knocked a cross by Martin out of the air and into the net with 29 seconds left in the period.

Jardine opened up the scoring in the second half, with Martin again adding the assist. Golden notched the hat trick for the game after Ryann Barreto played a ball over the defense in the 65th minute. Alexa Lopez tallied an unassisted goal and Gabby Crawford finished off the scoring with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart.

The Nittany Lions will host Bryn Athyn College on Saturday, November 4 at 2:30 p.m. in a semifinal round game, while Penn College and SUNY Poly will play at 5 p.m. in the other semifinal game. The winners of the semifinal games will then meet in the NEAC Championship on Sunday, November 5 at 2 p.m.
