Women's volleyball sweeps tri-match on final day of regular season

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a a sweep over the College of Saint Elizabeth and Shenandoah University in a home tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (13-13, 8-1 NEAC) opened up the day with a 3-0 victory over St. Elizabeth in the final NEAC contest of the season to earn the NEAC Regular Season Championship title. With the win, Berks finishes as the No. 1 seed in the South Division and will host St. Elizabeth in the NEAC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 31. Later in the afternoon, Berks topped Shenandoah by a score of 3-0 to finish off the regular season with a pair of victories. In between the Berks contests, Shenandoah defeated St. Elizabeth by a 3-1 margin.

In the opener, Berks downed their NEAC foe by set scores of 25-13, 25-10, and 25-18 to grab the victory. Megan Lackman led the offense with eight kills, followed by Alexis Horst and Amia Boone with six each. Abbie Carr, who added four kills, had a career-high and team-best five service aces and notched four block assists at the net. Morgan Schwartz and Laken Bankert both had three aces as the Nittany Lions collected 11 total in the contest. Madison Wojciechowski racked up 16 digs and Horst followed with nine. Schwartz handed out 26 assists on the Nittany Lions 31 kills. Maddy Kessler recorded four kills and assisted on two blocks.

Berks picked up its 3-0 win over Shenandoah after winning by game scores of 25-17, 26-24, and 25-17. Horst had a contest-high 12 kills and Lackman followed with 11. Schwartz recorded 34 assists, four digs, and two service aces. Bankert again chipped in three service aces, while Wojciechowski had two. Wojciechowski had team-best 19 digs, followed by Horst with 15 and Lackman with 13. At the net, Kessler led Berks with three block assists, with Boone and Carr each adding two.

The Nittany Lions will host the NEAC Quarterfinal round against St. Elizabeth on Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m.
