Women's volleyball sweeps Abington on the road

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory on the road over Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Thursday evening. Berks picked up the sweep with game scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-19.

Berks improves to 11-10 overall and 7-1 in the NEAC, while Abington falls to 9-15 on the year and 3-5 in the conference. With the victory, Berks clinched the top spot in the South Division and will play host to whichever team ends up as the fourth seed in the NEAC Quarterfinal Round contest on Tuesday, October 31.

Alexis Horst paced the offense with seven kills and a career-high five service aces, which easily surpasses her previous-best of two aces. Maddy Kessler chipped in six kills, while Abbie Carr and Megan Lackman both had five kills. At the net, Carr racked up two solo blocks and three block assists, followed by Lackman and Kessler with two block assists. Amia Boone recorded one block assist and one solo block to go along with two kills. Madison Wojciechowski picked up a contest-high 24 digs, while Lackman had 11 and Horst added nine. Morgan Schwartz dished out 19 assists on the Nittany Lions 26 kills.

As a team, Berks collected its second most service aces in a match this season with 13. Along with the five by Horst, Laken Bankert and Wojciechowski both had three, while Carr and Schwartz each had one.

Andia Anderson led Abington with eight kills and two solo blocks. Isabel Hoch grabbed 22 digs and Cori Watson added 11 assists and two aces.

The Nittany Lions will travel to New Jersey for a tri-match on Saturday, October 21. They will open up against host Rutgers-Camden at 12 p.m., followed by Marywood University at 2 p.m.
