Women's volleyball has win streak snapped by Scranton

SCRANTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team saw its four-match winning streak come to a halt after dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Scranton in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at the John Long Center.

The Nittany Lions now sport a 10-10 record, while Scranton improves to an impressive 29-2 overall. The Royals topped Berks by scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-17 to pick up the three-set victory.

Berks took a 9-7 lead in the opening game, but the Royals reeled off nine consecutive points to gain a 16-9 advantage to take control of the opening set. In the second set, Scranton again put up nine straight point to jump ahead 9-1 in the early going. The Nittany Lions fought back and narrowed its deficit to six points (22-16), but the large early hole was too much to overcome. The third game was a back-and-forth battle before the Royals went on a 6-0 run to lead 20-13.

Alexis Horst led the Nittany Lions offensive attack with 10 kills, followed by Amia Boone with five and Abbie Carr with four. Madison Wojciechowski notched 13 digs, while Laken Bankert added 10. Morgan Schwartz handed out 23 assists on the Nittany Lions 26 kills throughout the evening.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC contest on Thursday, October 19 at 7 p.m.
