Golden nets hat trick in victory over Abington

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team earned a 7-0 victory on the road over Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest.

Berks improves to 7-5-1 overall and 6-0 in the NEAC, while Abington drops to 5-8 on the year and 3-3 in the conference.

Gabby Crawford got the scoring started for Berks at the 15:50 mark of the opening period with her fourth tally of the year with Megan Jardine adding the assist on the play. CAITLIN GOLDEN took over from there with three consecutive goals (two in the first half) to give Berks a 4-0 lead in the 59th minute. Alexa Lopez supplied the assist on Golden's first score at 29:00 and Jardine notched her second assist with a Golden's final score at 58:53.

Later in the second half, Monica Pinel recorded her fourth goal of the season with Jardine adding her third assist of the match on the score at the 74:10 mark. Just over two minutes later, Jardine deposited her first goal of the afternoon off of a pass from Lopez. Lopez recorded the final score of the match in the 86th minute after receiving a through ball up the middle from Sarah McMullen.

Paige Elmy and Kaylee Frapaul split the shutout effort in net for Berks, while their counterpart Samantha Friend made 11 saves in her 90 minutes of action.

For the game, Berks outshot Abington by a 32-5 margin (18-0 on goal) and held a 14-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions start a five-game homestand to close out the regular season, four of those contests will be against NEAC opponents. They begin the homestand against SUNY Poly on Saturday, October 21 at 3 p.m., followed by Keuka College on Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
