Men's basketball suffers another late setback

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - For the second day in a row, the Penn State Berks men's basketball team was handed a heartbreaking one-point defeat, this time a 71-70 setback to Keuka College in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions (4-12, 4-8 NEAC) led 44-32 at halftime and held onto that 12 point advantage with as much as 7:09 remaining in the second half. But the Wolves (3-13, 3-8 NEAC) used a 17-4 run down the stretch to grab the come-from-behind win.

Darren Major and Baba Waples tied for the team lead with 18 points and the duo combined on seven assists. During the opening half, Major became the seventh member of the men's basketball program to reach 1,000 career points, joining Waples who reached the milestone earlier in the season. Waples finished the contest 8-for-8 from the free throw line after making all 11 of his attempts against Wells College on Saturday. For the season, Waples is averaging 24.8 points and Major is averaging 19.9 points, which ranks first and fourth in the NEAC, respectively.

Eli Adams sank three 3-pointers and finished the game with 11 points, followed by Matt Thompson with 10 points and six rebounds. Nelson Hine added four points and handed out six assists, while Eric Stepnowski chipped in career-high's of four points and six boards.

Dylan Doupe led the Wolves with 18 points and nine rebounds, followed by Cameron Winston with 15 points and Trevor Powell with 13.

The Nittany Lions will look to get back on track with a home game against Penn College on Wednesday, February 1 at 8 p.m.
