Strong finish leads women's basketball to win over Cazenovia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's team went 12-for-12 at the free throw line in the final minute and eclipsed the century mark in scoring for the first time this season with a 101-92 victory over Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (4-8, 4-6 NEAC) led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter and took 38-35 lead into the halftime intermission. Both teams came out of the break on fire, combining for 58 points as the Wildcats (1-12, 0-7 NEAC) outscored Berks 30-28 to make the score 66-65 heading into the final period. Cazenovia scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to go ahead 67-66, but Berks responded with a 3-pointer to go back ahead and they would eventually extend the lead to eight points with 2:18 remaining. After the Wildcats clawed back to within five points with 1:10 remaining, Berks received perfect shooting at the line from Sam Huggins (2-for-2), Sam Brensinger (2-for-2), and Deanna Daddona (8-for-8) to secure the win.

Daddona finished with a game-high 34 points after going 14-for-16 at the foul line and connecting on four 3-pointers. In addition, Daddona recorded five rebounds, five assists, and a team-high four steals. Daddona raised her season average to 23.1 points, which ranks as the third most in the conference.

Mackenzie Huber enjoyed a career-day after draining six 3-pointers on her way to 22 points. After struggling a little bit in the opening half, Huber went 4-of-9 from long range and tallied 16 of her points in the second half. The junior guard recorded six boards and four assists as well.

Huggins and Britt Weiss also improved their play in the second half and each finished the game with a double-double. Huggins notched her fifth double-double of the season after recording 14 points (12 in the second half) and 10 boards, while Weiss' second double-double performance came off of 13 points (seven in the second half) and a game-high 11 rebounds (seven after the break). Brensinger rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 10 points to go along with a game-high eight assists.

All five of the Wildcats started scored in double figures, led by Kelli Shepardson with 24 and Taylor Spranger with 20. Autumn Gavin recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, while also adding four blocked shots.
