Women's soccer earns first win with shutout of Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team earned its first win of the season after topping Bryn Athyn College, 8-0, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (1-2, 1-0 NEAC), who had seven different players record a goal, took a 3-0 lead into the intermission and tacked on five more in the second half.

Dana Sarcinello finished the day with two goals, the second one coming on a penalty kick. Freshman Charlotte Pizzuto recorded the first collegiate goal of her career after heading home a corner kick by Alexa Lopez for the opening score of the game in the 17th minute. Caitlin Golden added an unassisted score in the 35th minute, while Morgan Shade netted a goal with Monica Pinel supplying the assist later in the period. Lizzie Mummau and Nicole Brigante both had unassisted goals in the second half. Hannah Harkay concluded the scoring, with Becca Tate adding the assist.

Paige Elmy and Kaylee Frapaul combined on a shutout in the winning effort. Frapaul stopped all thee shots on target during the second half.

The Nittany Lions will enjoy an 11 day break as they do not return to action until a trip to Cazenovia College on Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m.
