Men's soccer blanks LBC, 5-0

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team picked up a 5-0 victory at home over Lancaster Bible in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday evening.

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 4-6 and now stand at 4-2 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fall to 4-6 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. Berks currently sits in sole possession of third place in the conference standings with 12 points, while LBC is deadlocked in a three-way tie for eighth place with six points.

Dan Zhmurkin netted the first goal of the game, which proved to be the game winner, in the 20th minute. Trent Moyer crossed a ball into the box, that Zhmurkin sent past the keeper for his third goal of the season. Later in the opening half, Cole Mays tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the season after T.J. Yurkovic set him up with a pass through traffic in front of the goal.

Clinging to a 2-0 lead at the halftime intermission, Bryan Franco put the game comfortably into Berks' favor with a score in the 48th minute. Kevin Mondi added a score in the 75th minute with Moyer notching his second assist of the evening. The scoring concluded when Manny Zavala found the back of the net with an assist by Zach Patterson in the 84th minute.

The defensive crew of Isaiah Danner, Tom Ulrich, Jairo Ordonez, and Jakob Fischer silenced the Charge offense all day to hand Gerardo Sosa another shutout victory.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in an NEAC contest on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m.
