Women's soccer blanks SUNY Poly

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five straight games after shutting out SUNY Polytechnic, 6-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 4-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats drop to 7-3-1 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

The senior captains paced the Berks offense with Brennan Moyer, Lizzie Mummau, and Dana Sarcinello each scoring a pair of goals. Moyer got the Nittany Lions on the board in the 16 minute with a blast from more than 30 yards out that sailed over the keeper's head and into the back of the net. Mummau assisted on the play. Sarcinello put Berks ahead 2-0 after converting a penalty kick at the 21:26 mark of the half. Less than two minutes later, Sarcinello assisted on Mummau's first goal of the day.

In the second half, Moyer again got the scoring started after weaving through defenders and beating the keeper with a low liner into the far back corner. In the 79th minute, Nicole Brigante crossed a pass to Mummau inside the box, who then sent the ball into the wide open net. Sarcinello finished off the scoring with a goal in the 80th minute, Mummau added the assist on the play.

Paige Elmy and Kaylee Frapaul combined on the winning effort. Frapaul stopped the only Wildcat shot on goal to preserve the shutout.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Cobleskill in a NEAC match on Sunday, September 25 at 12 p.m.
