Nittany Lions play Dickinson to 1-1 draw

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team turned in a strong 110 minutes, but unfortunately were not able to find the winning tally in a 1-1 draw to Dickinson College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions (3-2-1) outshot Dickinson by a 19-9 margin overall and a 9-5 count with shots on goal. Dana Sarcinello had a shot slam off of the crossbar in the 69th minute and later had a free kick sail just wide of target in the second overtime. Nicole Brigante and Kaylie Smucker both put shots on net in the first overtime period, but the Red Devils (4-1-2) was there to make the stop.

The Red Devils got on the board first with a goal in midway through the first half after the Nittany Lions committed a foul in Dickinson territory. Eryn McDonald delivered a free kick deep into the box and Alexandra Goldrich header it over the Berks defenders and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

After several minutes of back-and-forth play in the midfield, the Nittany Lions were able to net the equalizer just before the halftime intermission. Charlotte Pizzuto passed to Sarcinello inside the box, who then beat the keeper with a low strike into the near corner at the 41:58 mark of the half.

Paige Elmy, who made one save during the second overtime to keep the score even, finished the day with four saves. Mary Kate Brosnan made three saves in the first half for Dickinson, while Amanda Masterson tallied five stops over the final three frames.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Polytechnic in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday, September 24 at 1 p.m.
