Volleyball goes 1-2 at Crosstown Crossover

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball fell 3-0 to Elizabethtown University on Friday evening, followed by a 3-1 win over Lancaster Bible College and a 3-0 setback to Franklin & Marshall College on the second day of the Crosstown Crossover on Saturday afternoon.

PSB 3, Lancaster Bible 1 (Saturday, Game 1) Boxscore
The Nittany Lions claimed their first win of the season in a non-conference contest against its fellow NEAC opponent Lancaster Bible. Berks won by a score of 25-11 in the opener and overcame a late deficit (19-23) with a comeback 26-24 win to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Chargers claimed the third game (25-22), but Berks finished off the game with a 25-15 triumph in game four to clinch the victory.

The freshman duo of Lindsay Amrhein and Alexis Horst provided the offense with 14 kills apiece, followed by Janae Barlow with eight of her own. Makayla Fleming and Samantha Gonzalez each chipped in six kills. Amrhein did not commit an errors on her 26 attempts and finished with a .538 attack percentage. She also added a game-high six service aces and added two solo blocks. Setter Morgan Schwartz handed out 46 assists, to go along with seven digs, three kills, and one ace.

Madison Wojciechowski led the Nittany Lions with 18 digs, followed by Cristine Humer with 16 and Horst with 14 as the Nittany Lions defense combined with 72 digs.

Host Franklin & Marshall College picked up the win by scores of 25-9, 25-14, 25-18.

The Nittany Lions (0-1) led through the bulk of the first game, but the Blue Jays (1-0) made a late surge for a 26-24 victory. E-Town then grabbed a 25-19 triumph in the second and sealed it all with a 25-17 in the third set.

Freshman Lindsay Amrhein had a team-high nine kills to go along with two service aces, while fellow newcomer Alexis Horst made an impressive collegiate debut with eight hills, a team-best 14 digs and one block assist. Morgan Schwartz recorded 22 assists, six digs, two aces, and two kills. Samantha Gonzalez and Janae Barlow each tallied three kills.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference contest on Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
