Men's soccer nipped by Harrisburg

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks found itself in an early hole when Harrisburg scored 1:49 into the contest on a breakaway goal by Chase Vilga. Berks had several scoring chances in the first half, but they were all thwarted by the keeper. Harrisburg was able to put the contest away with a goal in the 86th minute by Jonathan Majin.

T.J. Yurkovic had two shots on goal, but was unable to sneak a shot past the keeper. The best scoring opportunity for Berks came in the 36th minute when Manny Zavala, who provided excellent minutes off the bench in both halves, unleashed a high liner from outside the box, but Brandon Hoover was able to knock the shot up and over the crossbar.

Gerardo Sosa made five saves in goal for Berks, while Hoover finished recorded all three of his saves in the first period.

For the game, Harrisburg outshot Berks by an 11-7 margin, and held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Berks will return to action with a pair of NEAC contests in upstate New York this weekend. They will face Cazenovia College on Saturday, September 17 at 3 p.m., followed by Morrisville State College on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
