Baseball falls on the road to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team could not get the bats going in a 9-2 setback to Gettysburg College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.

The Nittany Lions (9-3) got on the board in the top of the third inning when Keeanu Erb got things started with a two out single to left center. He moved up to second base after Nick Zipay worked the count full and drew walk. Luke Erb then roped a line drive center field to score Keeanu Erb and tie the game at 1-all.

Cory Fox led off the top of the fifth inning with a deep drive to center that one-hopped the fence for a double. He was moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Pearce Harhigh and scored on a groundout to shortstop by Keeanu Erb to make it a 5-2 deficit.

Keeanu Erb finished the game 2-for-3, while Tom Grablewski went 2-for-4.

Dylen Ziegler got the start on the mound for the Nittany Lions. The sophomore left-hander scattered seven hits and allowed five runs, while striking out three batters in four innings of work. Andrew Hertzog, Alex Doyle, and Toby Welk combined in relief of the final five innings.

The Nittany Lions will host Ursinus College in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 26, First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
