Brensinger nets season-high in setback to Gallaudet

READING, PA - Sam Brensinger and Deanna Daddona combined for 51 points, but it was not enough as the Penn State Berks women's basketball team fell, 90-69, to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to an 11-2 lead to open the game, but Gallaudet eventually closed out the first period on a 10-0 run to earn a four point lead. The Bison held a 45-33 advantage at half and padded its lead in the third quarter. The Nittany Lions started hitting their shots and outscored GU 27-17 in the final period.

Brensinger recorded 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting in the first half, which already gave her a personal high on the season. The freshman guard, who was forced to sit most of the third period due to foul trouble, finished out the game with 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and 10 points in the final quarter to register 26 points. She also added five assists and two steals. For the season, Brensinger is averaging 14.3 and 4.5 assists per game.

Daddona knocked down three 3-pointers in the first half and took 10 points into the intermission. She connected on another basket from long distance in the second half and tallied 15 more points after the break. Daddona finished the game 4-of-10 from 3-point range and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Daddona is currently averaging 20.8 points per game, which ranks fourth in the conference. The sophomore guard also notched three assists, three rebounds, and two steals.

Britt Weiss and Whitney Allen tallied five points each and the pair combined on seven rebounds. Sam Huggins and Elise Paskowski tied for the team lead with six boards, while Bre Schmidt followed with five.

Kelsey Hudson and Jakkisha Smith both made 10 field goals and finished with 25 points. Hudson also notched a game-high 16 rebounds, to go along with five assists and four steals.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC South Division contest on Sunday, December 4 at 12 p.m.
