Women's soccer tops Abington in regular season finale

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team topped Penn State Abington, 3-1, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 15-3-1 overall and close out the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record in the NEAC, while Abington drops to 9-6-1 on the season and 8-4-1 in the conference.

Prior to the start of the match, the quartet of Brennan Moyer, Lizzie Mummau, Dana Sarcinello, and Morgan Shade were honored with Senior Day recognition in the final regular season home contest of their careers.

Berks was able to get on the board in the 21st minute when Kaylie Smucker deflected a cross by Mummau past the keeper into the wide open net. They received an insurance goal heading into halftime when Monica Pinel scored at the 44:17 mark with an unassisted goal. Karina Raykova capped off the scoring with Pinel adding the assist in the 88th minute.

Abington was able to get on the board at 87:59 when Michelle Latronica put a penalty kick inside the left post.

Paige Elmy and Kaylee Frapaul combined on the win, with Elmy making a save on the only shot she saw in the first half. The defensive backfield of Moyer, Shade, Shelby Baker, and Megan Jardine kept the Abington offense in check all contest.

Berks had an 18-2 advantage in shots (10-2 on goal) and held an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host the NEAC Tournament next weekend. More information on the tournament will be released later in the week.
