Women's soccer clinches 5th straight regular season title

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team clinched its fifth consecutive regular-season championship title after edging Penn College of Technology, 1-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 13-3-1 overall and 12-0 in the NEAC, while Penn College drops to 9-8-1 on the season and 8-4 in the conference. Berks sits a top the standings with 36 points, followed by Lancaster Bible College in second place with 33 points. Both teams only have one conference match remaining and the Nittany Lions hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Chargers, should they finish with the same point total.

Caitlin Golden tallied her conference leading 18th goal of the season in the 61st minute to give the Nittany Lions the winning margin. Kaylie Smucker added the assist on the play.

Kaylee Frapaul, making her second start in net, recorded five saves to record a second consecutive shutout. The defensive unit of Brennan Moyer, Shelby Baker, Megan Jardine, and Karina Raykova continued their solid play, limiting the Wildcats time spent on the offensive end.

Colleen Bowes finished the match with seven saves to keep Penn College in contention throughout the match.

Berks out shot the Wildcats by a 19-7 margin (7-5 count on shots on goal) and held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Elizabethtown College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
