Nittany Lions top St. Elizabeth, 3-1

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball started its weekend off on a strong note with a 3-1 victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday night in the Horst Athletic Center on the campus of Lancaster Bible College.

The Nittany Lions improved their record to 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the NEAC, while the Eagles drop to 8-11 on the year and 4-7 in conference. Berks took the opening set by a count of 25-13, but the Eagles evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 victory in the second game. The Nittany Lions regrouped and finished the match off with wins of 25-10 and 25-12 in the final two games.

Overall, the Nittany Lions combined on 44 kills with only nine errors to finish with a .354 attack percentage. Megan Lackman and Alexis Horst paced the offense with 10 kills each. Megan DeAbreu had a career-high eight kills without any errors for a very efficient .615 attack percentage, while Janae Barlow added seven kills without any errors for a .626 attack percentage. The team collected a total of 10 service aces, led by Madison Wojciechowski with four and Lackman with three. Laken Bankert notched a team-high 10 digs, followed by Wojciechowski. Morgan Schwartz continued her strong all around play with 33 assists, seven digs, and three kills. Horst and DeAbreu turned in a solid performance at the net with each recording three block assists, while Lindsay Amrhein tallied three solo blocks.

Yasmin'na Muhammad led the Eagles with 10 kills, followed by Kiana Cunningham with eight. Nicole Morera handed out 26 assists and Stephanie Mitarotond had 16 digs.

The Nittany Lions will continue conference on Saturday, October 15 against Penn State Abington (12 p.m.) and Bryn Athyn College (2 p.m.).
